It’s that time of year when we reflect on the past 12 months and look towards the future. What do you want to accomplish in 2023? Some of us are still processing 2020 for that matter, but one thing is true – there is nothing cooler than caring about the environment. So, if you’re looking for a resolution to make this year – why not plan on reducing your carbon footprint and look great while doing it.
Quality Over Quantity
It’s so easy to be tempted by prices that seem too good to be true. There are brands that shall not be named, but are huge culprits of fast fashion and churning out too much product that most of it ends up in landfills. We won’t get into the environmental implications of that, but to put it bluntly – it’s not good. However, if you invest in pieces for your wardrobe that are quality, you are sure to turn heads. Investing in pieces that are timeless and well made, means that your wardrobe will last years and you won’t have to worry about replacing your wardrobe each season. The financial and environmental implications of purchasing quality pieces are numerous and will make you feel good about what you’re doing for Mother Nature.
Rent Instead of Buy
So, we totally get that when a big event comes around – your first instinct is to hit up your local boutique and find the perfect outfit. Have you ever considered renting? Rent the Runway is the perfect solution to finding designer name fashion for your event. Instead of buying something you only intend on wearing once and then stashing at the back of your closet, choose the power of renting. Fashion rental companies continue to grow because of the impact it has on your wallet, but also the stance it takes against fast fashion.
Have a Party
Like we need a reason to get together with our friends, but isn’t it so much better when we have a reason to nosh and gossip with our friends? Consider throwing a closet party, where you and your girl gang go through your closets and get rid of what you no longer want and swap with each other. Maybe that tunic that you’ve envied for years no longer is your friend’s style and voila – that pretty little thing is now yours! Plus, you get to hang out with your girlfriends for a night of food, laughs and fashion.
Give Back
There’s a million ways to give back when it comes to cleaning out your closet. Local Goodwill and Salvation Army’s are great places to make a donation, but there are other organizations that you can consider as well. Dress For Success is a non-profit organization whose mission is to give women the confidence and empowerment to gain economic independence. When going through your closet, consider an organization like this, or do research to see if there’s a charity in your area that might benefit from your donations.
In addition to donating clothing from your closet, when you subscribe to Reclaimed with Love, if the pieces you receive aren’t exactly your style, we encourage you to gift your pieces to a friend, however a charitable organization would be happy to accept jewelry donations as well.
It’s All in the Packaging
Along with choosing fashion that’s going to last, consider the packing that your favorite brands use. Are they part of the problem or part of the solution? Shop brands that use reusable and/or recycled packaging. Companies like Glow Recipe and Milk Makeup pride themselves in their sustainable packaging and their continued efforts to help our planet.
Sustainability is no longer just a trend – it is a lifestyle.
Living sustainably in 2023 is more important than ever. The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent, and it is up to each and every one of us to do our part in reducing our environmental footprint. And remember, it’s not just about saving the planet – it is also about taking care of ourselves and future generations.
So let’s embrace sustainability (and looking good while doing so) in 2023 and beyond. We’re not just about making a small difference – we’re all about making a lasting impact.
